Biographical Data :

Name :Amir Khusrau
Period :1253 - 1325
Biographical detail : Poet.

Amir Khusrau was a man of versatile genius. He was a renowned Indian poet, historian, courtier, saint and master of music who served in the courts of Muizuddin Kaiqbad, Jalaluddin Khilji, Allauddin Khilji, Qutbuddin Mubarak Shah and Ghiyasuddin Tughlaq. As a court poet he had to often write like a courtier.

Amir Khusro’s Tarikh-i-Alai or Khazain-ul-Futuh, Ashiqa, Nuh Sepahr, Tuglaq nama, Matla-ul-Anwar, Ghurutt-ul-Kamal and Qiran-us-Sa'dyn were mines of information for historians. His Kulliyat, the five Diwans and the Khamsa Masanwis give social and cultural glimpses of that era. He was rightly called a historian of contemporary social life.

Abul Hasan Amir Khusro was born at Patiali, Agra. His geet and qawwali belonged to the genius of the land, and although a Turk by descent, he proudly claimed that the music of India had made him an Indian. “I am an Indian Turk,” he said, “and my answers are in Hindwi.” He was buried close to the tomb of Nizamddin Auliya, his spiritual guide, at Delhi.
