The Biographical Dictionary that seeks to inform and provide new perspectives

The Salaam Biographical Dictionary contains 2460 biographical entries compiled by M. Nauman Khan in conjunction with Ghulam Mohiuddin, whose own idea and initial research laid the foundation of this project.

The selection is wide-ranging, spanning a period from early Islamic history
to the Twentieth Century. It includes short accounts of of men and women who have emerged from a Muslim milleau to influence the cultural, political and intellectual life of the society around them.

Muslim culture has a long tradition of biographical compilations.
One of the earliest biographical dictionaries was that of Ibn Khalikan,
born in Erbil in Iraq in 1211, who compiled the seven volume
'Wafayat al-A'yan wa Anba' Abna' al-Zaman'
(The Obituaries of Eminent Men)

You are invited to post any comments, supplementary details,
