Title   Disease to please: A psychological reflection of the Hadith of Intention
Organiser ELM/IFE
Venue East London Mosque
East London Mosque & London Muslim Centre 46-92 London E1 1JX - Whitechapel Road
London  E1 1JX
United Kingdom
Date & Time Friday,   12  March  2010
Start time: 7:30pm  End time: 8:30pm
Description Disease to please: A psychological reflection of the Hadith of Intention | Abdullah Hasan | 12/03/2010 | East London Mosque | 7:30Pm – 8:30pm | Brothers & Sisters | The hadith of intention addresses one of the most important aspects of Islam—sincere intention in one's worship. Imam Ahmad ibn Hanbal said that the fundamentals of Islam are based on three hadiths: this hadith, the hadith of 'A'isha (may Allah be pleased with her), "Whoever innovates something reprehensible in this religion of ours which does not belong to it, is rejected" (hadith 213), and the hadith of Nu'man ibn Bashir (may Allah be pleased with him) transmitted by Imam Muslim in his Sahih, "The lawful is clear and the unlawful is clear..." We will be covering: The meaning of intention and action The psychological tools the Prophet employed to develop people’s character Fiqh of niyyat (intention) Can anyone have 100% pure intention? Which one is more important? The behaviour (‘amal) or the internal intention (niyyat)? The Qur’an divides human beings into three categories based on their behaviour and mental processes. Find out which category you belong to. Do you have the disease to please syndrome? When does pleasing people become shirk? This class will be a continuation from the previous one: A psychological reflection on Surah Al-Shams. Those who attended the last class should not miss out on this one! This will not be your usual lecture. It will be class based insha’Allah, so time and help will be given to those who wish to memorise the hadith in Arabic and English. Most importantly, there will be handouts available like last time and a ‘People pleaser or Allah pleaser test’. Don’t get scared – it will be fun! The main objective will be to come closer to Allah by purifying our niyyat. PLZ CONFIRM ASAP SO WE KNOW HOW MANY HANDOUTS TO PREPARE. MISS IT MISS OUT!

Organiser London Islamic Network for the Environment / Wisdom In Nature
Venue Springfield University Hospital (Room tbc)
61 Glenburnie Road- Tooting
London  SW17 7DJ
United Kingdom
Date & Time Saturday,   27  March  2010
Start time: 9.30am  End time: 5pm
Description An Introduction to Islamic Ecology & Permaculture for Muslims & those interested in Islam. Organised by: London Islamic Network for the Environment / Wisdom In Nature. Supported by Transition Tooting, Springfield University Hospital and SHARE. Verily, in the creation of the heavens and the earth, and in the succession of night and day, there are indeed messages for all who are endowed with insight (Qur' an 3:190) Permaculture is a practical system for sustainable living, based on observing principles and patterns in nature. By maximising relationships in living systems, permaculture has empowered people worldwide to develop projects that work with nature, rather than against it. Whatever scale or aspect of human living, whether the home and garden, mosque/Islamic centre, business or community space, permaculture can be applied to each situation. At the same time, Islam, a spiritual tradition that locates humankind within the wider ecology, has sustainability and relationship at its heart. This one-day workshop will introduce you to basic principles of both Islamic ecology and permaculture. This is an introductory day that promises to be fun, educational and transformative. It will include an outdoor practical, and opportunities for networking with other course participants. Please bring a copy of the Qur' an (with translation, and preferably also commentary) if you have one. To help maximise learning we will have a small group size. Hence places are limited, and bookings MUST be made in advance. There will be space available within the day for salaat/prayer for those who would like to take part. Workshop Facilitators: Zaibun Nisa & Muzammal Hussain (LINE / Wisdom In Nature) Sliding scale fee: £30 (standard rate) / £25 (low wage) / £20 (concessions)
