Muslim Charity Offering Scholarships in Journalism

Bait Al-Mal Al-Islami, a UK-based Muslim charity, was founded last year by Mrs. Suraya Malik with the aim of helping Muslims establish a presence in the media industry. The charity awards ambitious British nationals media scholarships through its scholarship program.

The scholarship program gives grants to qualified applicants, on different levels. It provides financial assistance, guidance and mentoring, and or networking advice. The program cultivates a progressive culture for those who want to move forward in their careers.

Eligibility is extended to undergraduates that have either completed their studies, or are in the process of doing so. Interested individuals are strongly urged to apply by sending an email to the charity, bait_al_mal@hotmail.com, to request an application form.

The deadline for applications is January 10, 2004, after which short-listed applicants will be interviewed. Five scholarships will be awarded to the selected applicants.

Bait Al-Mal Al-Islami is funded by regular donors and is open to any donation. If you would like to contribute to the education and career enhancement of others, you can send an email to the above address, to obtain further instructions on how to make your deposit.

Mrs. Malik has a vision for her charity, “so far Muslims have devoted their resources to alleviate hardship and deprivation overseas. The time has come for Muslim resources to be invested within our community to nurture future talent in this country.”

“It is a very progressive idea,” says Ms. Tasneem, Project Manager at Bait Al-Mal Al-Islami.
Bait Al-Mal Al-Islami’s long-term goal is to offer scholarship programs in all other disciplines.
