The Post Office has issued a press release encouraging British Muslims to use a new range of Postal Orders for making their Ramadan donations to charities. This Gift Postal Order range incorporates a Gift Aid declaration. Gift Aid allows registered charities to claim an extra 28% from the Inland Revenue over the face value of each Postal Order. For example, a £10 postal order is worth £12.80 to a charity.

This new payment method will be particularly useful for donors without bank accounts and is safer than sending cash in the post.

In the Press Release, David Mills, Chief Executive of Post Office Ltd, notes that “With our new range of Postal Orders, we offer UK charities an opportunity to maximise donations – and, along with The Giving Campaign, we encourage charities to alert their donors to the convenience and financial benefits of completing the Gift Aid declaration when giving with a Postal Order“.
