Trevor Kavanagh in the Sun, ‘. . . Hungary and Poland refuse point-blank to accept new- comers. And still the EU has no coherent policy for dealing with the millions more on their way. But there is one unspoken fear, gagged by political correctness, which links Britain and the rest of Europe. The common denominator, almost unsayable until last week’s furore over Pakistani sex gangs, is Islam. Thanks to former equalities chief Trevor Phillips, and Labour MPs such as Rotherham’s Sarah Champion, it is acceptable to say Muslims are a specific rather than a cultural problem . . .The abuse of women by Muslims, says Trevor Phillips, is “on an industrial scale”. “What the perpetrators have in common is their proclaimed faith. They are Muslims, and many of them would claim to be practising.
“It is not Islamophobic to point this out.”  He blames the BBC for trying to divert attention over last week’s sex gang convictions by headlining the “utterly routine” police use of a convicted child abuser to infiltrate the gangs.British authorities have long deliberately disregarded Muslim sex crimes — soon likely to be a racist offence itself — including outrages such as female genital mutilation and “honour” killings.’ click here.

Lurid headline: “Christian child forced into Muslim Foster Care”, by journalist Andrew Norfolk.

Response from Shenaz Bunglawala:  It’s difficult to know where to start with the media storm sparked by The Times’ lead story earlier this week about a young girl residing with Muslim foster carers in the London borough of Tower Hamlets. The article says that reports seen by the newspaper suggest she has been “very distressed” about her placement with a Muslim foster family, and that she has made claims about her Christian cross being removed, not being allowed to eat a spaghetti carbonara due to its bacon content, being encouraged to learn Arabic, and expressing discomfort at the carers’ apparent lack of spoken English . . . This sort of reporting is analogous to the paradigm of cultural conflict reporting seen in child sex exploitation cases. An op-ed by Trevor Phillips in The Sun this week explicitly mentions the grooming scandals and takes aim at incompetent bureaucrats, apparently too concerned about their ‘pro-Muslim’ credentials to recognise their responsibilities to young white British girls. The language used then and now is clearly betrays the binary worldview that permeates aspects of our public discourse in which British Muslims are cast as perpetual foreigners with poor English language competency (ergo, not ‘integrated’), and whiteness is equated with Britishness. The consequences of entrenching Islamophobia in our discourse are devastating.’ click here.
