Abd Al Karim Al Jili

Birth:1365

Death:c1424

A great mystic. Jili studied in Yemen from 1393 to 1403. Jili's writings were greatly influenced by Ibn al Arabi, the Spanish mystic of the 13th century. He believed that the perfect man was a channel through which the common man could enjoy contact with the Divine Being. Jili wrote more than thirty works and had influenced many people in the Muslim world including Allama Iqbal. Jili's Insan al Kamil Fimarifat al Awakhir wa al Awail, translated into English by R.A. Nicholson in 1921, contained his doctrine of the perfect man.
