The son of Akbar the Great. He was named Salim, on account of his coming into this world, as blessed by the prayer of Shaikh Salim Christie. He came to the throne of Delhi in 1605, after the death of his father. In 1612 Jahangir permitted the East India Company to establish factories at Surat, Ahmadabad and Cambay.
