Ismat Kittani

Diplomat. Ismat was elected President of the UN General Assembly from 1981 to 1982. Iraq's chief delegate to the UN from 1985 to 1989, Ismat defended his country's invasion of Iran. Ismat, of Kurdish origin, was a smooth diplomat who was loaned to the UN from 1965 to 1979 and who 'performed many sensitive missions with utmost skill and judgement.'
