Muhammad Ismail Shahid
The Indian Muslim reformer who was martyred at Balakot, fighting against the Sikhs.
A disciple of Sayyid Ahmad and a grand son-in-law of Shah Waliullah, he joined the holy war (Jihad) led by Sayyed Ahmad in 1824-26 against the Sikhs. Ismail assumed the leadership of the mujjahidin in 1830, but lost his life in the battle against a superior Sikh force.
