Abdur Rahman Khan
Amir of Afghanistan. Grandson of Dost Muhammad Khan. Before his death in 1853, Dost Muhammad Khan had his son Sher Ali as his successor. During the second British Afghan war Sher Ali died and Abdur Rahman was brought to the throne with the aid of the British. In return, he granted Britain control of Afghanistan's foreign relations.
