Alauddin Hussain Shah

The founder of the Hussain Shahi dynasty of Bengal (India). Alauddin joined the Abyssinian ruler of Bengal Muzzafar Shah (1491-93) and rose against him and moved his capital from Gaur to Ikdala. He ruled from 1493 to 1519. In 1498 he conquered Kamrup, Assam and Orissa in 1516. Alauddin promoted Bengali literature. Ramayana, Bhagvata and Mahabharata were translated into Bengali for the first time under his patronage. Alauddin was succeeded by his son Nusrat Shah.
