Al Hakim Bi Amr Allah

Birth:985

Death:1021

Sixth ruler of the Fatimid dynasty of Egypt. He was held among the Druz to be a divine incarnation. He became caliph in 996, but his religious policies were against the Sunnis and the Christians. He encouraged Ismaili missionaries and it was during his regime that the Druz, a radical Shiite sect, flourished. He mysteriously disappeared while taking a walk on the night of February 13, 1021. It was believed that the burning of Fustat (old Cairo) at the end of his reign was intended to punish fiercely Sunni inhabitants who had rejected the doctrine spread by al-Darazi that al Hakim was in fact God.
