Hakeem Abdul Majid

The founder of Hamdard, Delhi, in 1906. His Hamdard followed the Unani system of treating illness. When India was divided in 1947, his younger son, Hakim Muhammad Said, migrated to Karachi, Pakistan. Hamdard a full-fledged pharmaceutical organisation got the Hamdard Foundation incorporated in 1953 to sponsor scientific conferences, lectures, publish scholarly books, encourage scholars and promote learning. In 1983, a city was founded near Karachi and named Madinaht al Hikmat by the Hamdard Trust to house scholars and students and to promote learning in general.
