Zaynab Al Ghazali

Death:2005

The founder of Egypyt's the Muslim Women's Association (1936-1964) which had a membership of three million throughout Egypt. Zaynab was imprisoned by Nasser for her activities for twenty-five years in 1965, but was released by Anwar Saadat in 1971. She describes her prison experiences in her book Ayyam men hayati in 1977. Her father had given her encouragement to follow the example of Nusaybah bint Ka'b al Maziniyah, who had fought alongside the Prophet, peace be upon him, in the battle of Uhud.
