Pakistani novelist Having served as a civil servant in Pakistan's lawless tribal regions Jamil Ahmad's adventure inspired him to write a novel Wandering Falcon that became a literary sensation. The novel, published in 2011, follow a wandering orphan as he travels 'the tangle of crumbling, weather-beaten and broken hills' where the borders of Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan meet and witnesses the dignity and brutality of a world shaped by poverty and the strict codes of blood feuds and honour killings. Born in Punjab Jamil Ahmad grew up in Delhi before the region was divided between India and Pakistan in 1947. He gained fame as a writer late in his life, giving regular interviews and travelling to London to promote his novel. He lived in Islamabad.
