The favourite spouse of Shahjehan in whose memory he built the Taj Mahal.
Daughter of Asaf Khan, the brother of Nurjahan, she was married to Shahjehan in 1612 and was given the title Mumtaz Mahal.
Arjumund Bano Begum died a few hours after the birth of her last daughter at Burhanpur. She was buried there but afterwards her remains were removed to Agra where the world's most splendid mausoleum was built for her called the Taj Mahal.
