Inspirational teacher and campaigner
Inspirational head-teacher and campaigner Syed Nawazish Tanweer Bokhari was the first British Muslim to run a UK secondary school, the culmination of a career devoted to improving educational standards. He was the head of Ernest Bevin College in Tooting, South London. Under his guidance the school's results improved dramatically.
He also worked tirelessly in the cause of British Muslims and greater integration. He was a founder member of North London Muslim Welfare Association and a member of Wandsworth Policing Committee and Racial Incident Panel.
Bokhari was honoured with OBE in 2001 for his service to education.
Simply known as Naz, Syed Nawazish Tanweer Bokhari was born in Sialkot, Pakistan. He migrated to Britain in 1960s.
