Abbas Mahmud Al Aqqad

Birth:1889

Death:1964

An Egyptian poet, critic, biographer and journalist, Aqqad was born in Aswan, and was influenced by English writers, especially William Hazlitt and Thomas Carlyl. In his later age, he showed a growing concern about religious books. Aqqad was opposed to British rule, Nazism, communism and even to Egyptian autocrats for which he was jailed in 1930-31.
