Musician. Indian sub-continent's greatest Sarod wizard, Ustad Alauddin Khan who was affectionately called Baba made the most significant contribution to the world of music.
Almost every prominent instrumentalist in the second half of the 20th century Indian sub-continent learnt his music from him as his disciple. Ustad Alauddin was the fountainhead of the Maihar gharana and whose paternal stance was strict in his teaching. Baba's playing style was unique and greatest of the century - played several instruments and played Sarod with both his hands.
Ustad Alauddin Khan was awarded India's Sangeet Natak Academy in 1951 and Padma Buhsan in 1958.
Baba's son, Ali Akbar Khan, daughter, Anapurna and son-in-law Ravi Shanker are some of his famous disciples.
