Pakistan's veteran poet and writer Veteran poet, short story and drama writer and columnist, Ahmed Nadeem Qasmi was one of the biggest and best-known figures of Urdu literati's hub in Pakistan. During his long career, Qasmi had the distinction of having edited many prestigious journals, including 'Phool', 'Tehzeeb-e-Niswaan', 'Adab-e-Lateef', 'Savera', 'Naqoosh' and his brainchild 'Fanoon'. He also served as the editor of Urdu daily 'Imroze' (now defunct). Qasmi's best known collections include 'Jalal-O-Jamal', 'Shola-e-Gul' and 'Kisht-e-Wafa' (poetry), and 'Chopaal', 'Sannata' and 'Kapaas Ka Phool' (short stories) Among his many laurels, Qasmi won the Pride of Performance (1968) and the Pakistan Academy of Letters' lifetime achievement awards and above all the country's highest civil honour, the Sitara-e-Imtiaz for literature. He passed away of asthmatic problems in Lahore.
