Abdul Rehman Siddiqui

An Indian Muslim lobbyist. One time Mayor of Calcutta, Abdul Rehman Siddiqui lived in London, in the 1920s, as a Muslim lobbyist. He went on the mission to Turkey in 1912 and led the Muslim delegation to the Palestine Conference in London in 1939. He founded an English daily, the Morning News, in Calcutta. He also established, in 1932, the first Muslim Insurance Company, in Calcutta â€' Eastern Federal Insurance Company. Both the enterprises played important role in the newly created Pakistan in 1947. A. R. Siddiqui was once a Governor of Eastern wing of Pakistan, now Bangladesh.
