Egyptian actress and singer Actress and singer Huda Sultan whose career spanned over half a century started as a singer in Egyptian radio and became a superstar in the late 1940s. In 1950, she appeared in her first movie, alongside superstar Farid Shawqi, in 'Sit al-Husn' (Master of Beauty). Sultan performed in hundreds of films and earned dozens of awards from Arab and in international festivals - the last one was in a Cairo singing conference in 2000. Huda Sultan who died of cancer was born Bahija Abd al-Al into a conservative peasant family in Tanta governorate, in Egypt's Nile Delta.
