Al Nazzam Ibrahim Bin Saiyar

Birth:775

Death:845

A Mutazilite theologian, philologist and dialectician. He studied theology under Abdul Huzil al Allah in Basra. His writings have been lost but some of it was preserved in the writing of his disciple al Jahiz. In Baghdad he engaged in polemics with other theologians, the traditionalists and leggiest. He greatly influenced the Matazilites, but his opponents called him a Dahri. His dogmatic extravagances brought down upon him the condemnation of all including the Muttazilites. He occupied a most important place in the development of Islamic ideas during the Abbaside period.
