Bangladeshi women's activist Nasreen who was hit by a vehicle in Dhaka and died of her wound worked as director of the British charity, Action Aid, in Bangladesh. She focused her efforts on relieving poverty, championing the disabled, supporting communities affected by HIV/AIDS, and campaigning against injustices - worked voluntarily for Naripokkho, a women's activist group. Schooled in Texas, USA, as a teenager and trained as nutritionist at the University of California, Berkeley, Nasreen worked as a development activist - first as a research nutritionist with Bangladesh Rural Advancement Committee, the largest non-government agency in the world and then as policy advisor for the US-based blindness prevention agency, Helen Keller international. Nasreen who worked for Action Aid, since 2002, was also an advisor on gender issues to the government of Bangladesh and the World Health Organisation.
