Al Maqanna

Birth:

Death:780

He lived during the reign of Khalifa al Mahdi. His name was Hakam Ibn Hisham but was famous by the little of Al Maqqana, because he always used to veil his face to cover his deformity. He proclaimed that the Deity resided in his person. He also had the audacity to raise an open rebellion against Al Mahdi. The caliph sent his army to crush his rebellion in 780. Seeing no possibility of escaping, he took his life by poisoning himself. He was the hero of Moor's Lalla Rookh.
