Scholar on Islamic jurisprudence. Indian-born and Doha based, Maulana Shamsy was considered an authority on Islamic jurisprudence and was popular with his weekly Islamic question-answer programme on Qatar Broadcasting Urdu Service. Maulana Shamsy who had been residing in Doha since 1984 with the Dawah al-Irshad Centre of Saudi Arabia was much sought-after as a speaker in Urdu in many forums. Maulana Shamsy who died of heart attack in Qatar hailed from Rampur (UP) India. After having graduated from Jamiatul Falah, in Azamgarh, he pursued his higher studies at Cairo's Al-Azhar University where he won a gold medal for his academic record.
