Pakistan's journalist, writer, poet and political activist. Hasan Abidi was an ardent believer in progressive thought that he advocated both in his writing and in his career as a political worker and trade unionist. After a long association with Dawn Group of Newspapers, he had become a freelance journalist. A prolific writer, boldly exploring social themes and issues of concern to common people, his publications include Navisht-I-Nai (1995), Jareed (1998) and Farar Hona Haruf Ka (2004). Kaghaz Ki Kashti and several stories for children were among his literary contributions. For his political and trade union work, Hasan Abidi suffered prison on several occasions. Hasan Abidi was president of the Karachi Press Club and held offices in both the Karachi Union of Journalist and the Pakistan Federal Union of Journalist, apart from his active membership of the Irtiqa forum. Hasan Abidi who died of a heart attack in Karachi was born in Zafarabad, in Jaunpur (India) and migrated to Pakistan in 1948.
