Advocate for British Muslim community. He has been actively involved in a voluntary capacity with community and charitable work for the last 35 years in Britain and at an international level. He was the founding secretary general when MCB (Muslim Council of Britain) was established in 1997 and he subsequently served a further four years in this office (2002-04, 2004-06). Iqbal chairs the Board of Trustees of the Memon Association UK. He led the Committee in raising £1.2 million to build a unique Sports and Community Centre in south London, opened officially, in 2001, by the Prince of Wales. He is involved in mosques, Islamic centres, Education Trusts, Family Welfare Association, a national charity in Britain that focuses on helping suffering children around the world, Muslim Aid, an international relief agency serving in more than 45 countries, Abdullah Quillam Society in Liverpool, MCB Charitable Foundation and is a member of the Home Office Race and Equality Advisory Panel, advising the government on matters relating to equality and race relations. Sacranie has over the years served on a number of charitable and community organisations including the British Heart Foundation, the National Co-ordinating Committee of European Year Against Racism, the National Consultation on Chaplaincy, the Interfaith Network, the Coroners Review Group and the Prince's Trust. He is recipient of many awards including an OBE, in 1999, and a Knighthood, in 2005, in the Queen's Birthday Honours List, in recognition for his charitable and community service. Iqbal Sacranie who was born in Malawi arrived in Britain, in 1969, for further studies.
