Al Shirazi

An important physician. Al-Shirazi is one of the major commentators on Ibn Sina's medical works. He wrote one of the most widely read commentaries on 'Canon', and also composed numerous works on optics, geometry, astronomy, geography, philosophy and religious affairs. Al-Shirazi wrote commentaries on the illuminatist doctrines of Suharwarddi and authored several encyclopaedic works that dealt with many important physical and astronomical questions. Al-Shirazi was born Qutb al-Din al-Shirazi into a family of physicians and was the most celebrated student of al-Tusi. Later he journeyed to Egypt where he stayed for some time and then returned to Iran, settling in Tabriz where he died.
