Algerian teen-singer and rai star based in Paris. There have been few better teen-singers than Cheb ('young') Khaled, who made his first record in Algeria, aged 14. By the age of 17 Cheb Khaled had become a national star with five cassette albums to his name. By 1990, he was established king of rai music - the North African Elvis. Cheb Khaled's performance with his deep, baleful vocals and his imposing stage persona Impressed his audience at the Bobigny Rai Festival in Paris. 'Khaled' was Cheb Khaled's first release for the French label and it created a storm. Cheb Khaled's smash hits 'Didi' and 'Aicha' recently rocketed to the top of charts around the world and have earned the Algerian star a huge following of fans. His fusing elements of flamenco, reggae, jazz, funk and rock. Khaled Hadj Brahim, better known to his fans, Algerian rai star Khaled, was born in Sidi El Houari, a suburb of Oran. Born into a modest family he developed a passion for music.
