Contrary to popular belief he was not a mythical or fictitious character. Shaikh Chilli, his real name Shaikh Abul Fateh's great grandfather had come from Transoxiana to India and settled in a suburb of Badiyon, called Chilla. Mulla Abdul Qadir Badiyoni had introduced him to the court of Akbar where he gained fame as a great wit.
