The founder of the Samanid dynasty in Iran. The most important contribution of the Samanid dynasty to Islamic art was the pottery produced at Nishapur and Samarqand. The Mamluks (Turkish Qarakhanids) assassinated the last Samanid, Ismail II, in 1005.
