Ahmad Kasravi
Birth:1890
Death:1948
The Iranian historian and founder of the Azadigan society.
Kasravi was removed from Tehran university, where he was a teacher, for criticising Hafiz, Sadi and other mystic poets as according to Kasravi, they advocated wine drinking, fatalism and homosexuality.
Kasravi was the author of Tarikh-i-mashrutah-yi-Iran and Tarikhi hijdah salah-yi Azarbayjan.
Kasravi denounced Shiism for having begun as a dynastic power-struggle during the Saffarid regime in 1501-1722, for falsely creating the story of the twelve Imam, for the belief of taqiyah (dissimulation), for claiming that true sovereignty lay with the Imam-i-ghaib and his deputies--- the mujthahids. In March 1946, he was declared 'apostate' and assassinated.
Ayatollah Khomeini's favourite book, however, was Kasravi's History of the Iranian Constitutional movement.
