The Iraq military leader who overthrew the monarchy in 1958 and established the Republic of Iraq. Qasim became the leader of opposition group in the army and after becoming prime minister he declared Iraq as a re Abd as Salam `Arif along with Saddam Hussain led dissident army in a coup in 1963 and overthrew his government. Qasim was killed in the coup.
