Al Qasim Al Iraqi

Birth:13th. cent

Death:

An Arab chemist. The father of Arab al Chemy was Jabir ibn Hayyan. He acted on the assumption that base metals such as lead, iron, tin and copper could be turned into gold by means of a substance, to the search of which he devoted his whole life. Qasim or other Muslim chemists made very little improvement on his search. Qasim was the author of al ilm al Muktasab fi zira 'at al Zahab: knowledge acquired concerning the making of gold. It was edited and translated by E J Holmyard - Paris 1923.
