Birth:9th century

Death:

The adventures of Sindbad was first mentioned in the great Arabian fable 'Alif Laila' popularly known as The Thousand and one Nights as a very rich sailor who lived an opulent life in Baghdad at the time of Caliph Haroun al Rashid. Sindbad had gathered much knowledge, experience and wealth from adventures of his long voyages on sea and land. An anonymous author, in 851, gave the account of such journey and that gave us the first Arabic description of China and India. From this and similar accounts their evolved gradually the stories of Sindhbad the sailor. Sindbad may not have existed as a real person in history, but his name has lived on to provide the central character for numerous stories, cartoons and films up to this day.
