Ahmad Tejan Kabbah

Birth:1932

Death:2014

Politician of Sierra Leone. Ahmad Kabbah is a former civil servant and long time UN official - the UN Development Programme, where he worked for 21 years. He was elected Sierra Leone's President in 1996, and subsequently in 2002. Muslims form 70 per cent of the population. With the establishment of a war-crimes tribunal and the inauguration, in August 2002, of a seven-member Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC), Sierra Leone seems at last to have emerged from its decade-long descent into devastation. Sierra Leone is country rich of precious minerals, diamonds, abundant natural resources and a once-vaulted educational system that boasted the first university in sub-Saharan Africa. Ahmad Tejan Kabbah was born in Pendembu, a town in eastern Sierra Leone.
