The Egyptian religious leader, accidentally blinded when he was 10 months old. He obtained a Master's degree from Al-Azhar and was mcuh-loved for his beautiful recitation of the the Qur'an.. He was put in jail by the Egyptian government when he condemned Nasser as an infidel, released in 1971, but was again arrested for his alleged involvement in the assassination of President Saadat. He was acquitted in 1984. In 1990 he emigrated to the United States, where he was alleged to have inspired his followers to bomb the World Trade Centre in New York in 1993 for which he is spending time in jail in the United States of America.
