The Ottoman Sultan from 1703 to 1730.
Because he had given refuge to Charles XII of Sweden at his court, he was forced to go to war with Russia (1711-13) and he defeated the Russians and they had to surrender some forts to the Turks and promised not to interfere in British or Cossack affairs. He also defeated the Venetian but lost Belgrade to them in 1717 and had to cede Hungary and part of Serbia to them in 1718 through a peace treaty. He was deposed in 1730 and died in captivity.
