Agha Muhammad Khan Qajar

The founder of the Qajar dynasty of Iran. After the disintegration of the Safarid dynasty in 1722, the Qajar chieftains became active contenders for the throne. In 1757 he became the governor of the Azerbaijan province of Iran, by 1785, when Tehran was made the capital he was a dominant figure in northern Iran and In 1796 he captured Georgia and Khurasan. During his reign Tehran grew from a village to a city. While leading a second expedition to Georgia he was killed by his two servants. The Qajar dynasty survived till 1925.
