Halid Ziya Usakligil

Death:1945

A Turkish novelist. Ziya was educated at a French School in Izmir and wrote Bir Olunun Deftri (1889) and Ferdi ve Suvekast (1894). His novel Mai ve Siyah (1897) and Ishqi-Memnu (1900) was considered his masterpiece. Ziya, along with some other modern writers of the time, founded a journal called Servet-i-Funun to inform about European, especially French cultural movements in 1896.
