Abdul Halim Sharar

Urdu novelist Famous for his historical novels in Urdu, Sharar was a recognized writer and journalist. He joined Avadh Panch in 1880. Sharar's first novel Diljasp in 1882 was followed by a number of books including Firdaus-e-bareen but his best work is Ghusishta Lucknow ya Mashraqi Tamadun ka Akhri Namona - a social history of Lucknow culture including the rites of marriage ceremony, Muharram, Muslim cuisine and other interesting customs. This book has been translated into English. In 1895, Sharar went to England as the tutor and chaperon of the son of Nawab Waliuddin of Hyderabad, a princely state of British India and stayed there for 15 months.
