Shaikh Mujibur Rahman

Death:1975

A passionate political leader of Bangladesh formerly known as East Pakistan. A guerrilla war against Pakistan, which was geographically divided in two wings, West and East, and India in between, led to the creation of an independent country named Bangladesh in 19971. Shaikh Mujibur Rahman became prime minister in 1973 but on 15 August 1975 he was assassinated in a coup de'tat by the Bangladesh's Army. Shaikh Mujibur Rahman is popularly known in Bangladesh as 'Bangabundu', meaning 'Friend of Bengal' as well as Father of the Nation.
