Mahmud Esad Cosan

Turkey's leading light of Naqshbandi tariqua, also known as Mahmud As'd Joshan. Having established a publishing company Prof Cosan launched popular magazines, wrote articles and published many books and taught Theology in Ankara University. He also lectured as a visiting professor at various universities abroad. Prof Cosan was highly esteemed amongst his colleague and expert in the Turkish-Islamic Literature. To propagate Islamic and national values Prof Cosan initiated the establishment of AKRA radio station, in 1992, a broadcast in Istanbul to be heard also through the Internet and via satellite. 'Murshid Effendi', as his disciples used to call him, Mahmud Es'ad Cosan was born in Canakkale, Anatolia. He died in a car accident in Sydney, Australia where he was settled in Brisbane since 1998. Prof. Dr Cosan, who spoke Turkish, Arabic, Persian, English and German and who guided Muslims all over the world, was buried in Eyup graveyard in Turkey where his funeral was attended by more than a hundred thousand people.
