Abul Majd Majdud Ibn Adam Sanai

Birth:1069

Death:1131

Poet. Sanai was the first great mystical Persian poet who served at the court of Ghazna, composing panegyrics in praise of the Ghazni Sultans. But after a change of heart he lived in retirement and wrote mystic poetry, Hadiqat al Hqaiq wa Shariat at Tarriqah (The garden of truth and the law of the path) consisted of 1,000 couplets. Its first part was translated in English as The Enclosed Garden of Truth in 1910. Sanai's divan contained about 30,000 verses and was the first to use the forms of Qasida, Masnavi and Ghazal to express mystical and ethical ideas of Sufism in Persian poetry.
