Sami Al Munayyes

Journalist. Sami was a veteran Kuwaiti journalist, politician and articulate moderniser and a leading critic of the government, a parliamentarian, and a champion of women's rights. Sami fought for the restoration, with amendments, of the 1962 constitution, which the emir had suspended in 1986. Sami edited several newspapers and magazines. The International Union of Journalists honoured him for his contribution to press freedom. The Battle For Democracy was the only book he wrote. Sami died of a stroke in Cairo.
