Musa Al Sadr
One of the charismatic leaders of the Middle East.
Musa moved to Tyre and was granted Lebanese citizenship in 1963. He founded Harakat al Mahrumin (movement of the deprived) which adjunct to a militia in 1975. The militia, Afwaj al Muqawamah al Lubnaniyah better known by its acronym Amal (meaning hope) was initially trained by al Fatah (a branch of PLO) and played a minor role in the 1975-76 fighting.
Musa became a hero of Lebanon after he visited Libya and disappeared in 1978. It was a tribute to Musa that no body knew which side he stood for: friendly with both King Hussain of Jordan and Anwar al-Saadat of Egypt.
Musa was born in Iran of Lebanese parents, and he was educated in Qom and Tehran.
