Riad Mahmud

Birth:1917

Death:1992

An Egyptian diplomat and soldier. Riad participated in the overthrow of King Farooq and became a confidant of President Nasser. He served as an ambassador to Syria (1955-58), representative to the U.N. (1962-64) and foreign minister (1964-72) and from 1979 he was secretary general of the Arab League.
