King of Delhi and the real founder of Muslim rule in India. After his victory over Pithura, the Raja of Ajmer, Shahabuddin Ghori left him as his deputy in India in 1192. He conquered almost the whole of north India and extended his kingdom as far as Bengal. After the death of Shahabuddin in 1206 he was proclaimed king of Delhi. He was the founder of Qutb Minar the famous monument at Delhi. He died at Lahore, four years later, while playing polo.
